Weighing Your Options for Teeth Straightening
Crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth can cause problems with functionality, speech, and give you an unsightly smile. Braces can not only fix these problems, but also help align your jaw as well. Yet, choosing which orthodontic procedure will meet your needs can be difficult. While each treatment option will result in a straighter smile, there are also a lot of pro’s and con’s for each one. At Temple Dental Trails, we offer several orthodontic treatments so you can get the whatever treatment you need in the same place.
Orthodontic Treatments
Traditional braces – Most people get braces while they are in grade school so they can get a straighter smile while they are still young. Traditional braces generally take longer, about two years, to give you the results you want, but will be better for bite and jaw issues. They also use metal brackets and wires so they stand out against your teeth, making them less ideal to older teens and adults. Yet, the bracket colors can be changed so they are more fun for younger children.
Six month braces – These braces are better suited to teens and adults who want straighter teeth in less time. A lot of people get six month braces before big events such as prom, weddings, or reunions so they can have a more beautiful smile just in time. Six month braces also are designed with clear brackets and wires so they blend in better with your teeth. These braces are best for minor to moderate issues with your front teeth.
Invisalign – Invisalign uses clear, plastic trays that are custom fitted to your teeth to help move them into place. The trays need to be switched out every two weeks, and take about twelve to eighteen months to fix your smile. Since they are clear, it is almost impossible to tell when someone is wearing them so they are best for those who don’t want unsightly braces. They also need to be removed when you eat or drink so you wont have to avoid hard or sticky foods while you are getting the treatment.
